Plant-based meats company Impossible Foods has announced that it will debut plant-based chicken nuggets this fall. Similar to past releases, Impossible’s nuggets will first be sold to restaurants with supermarkets to follow after. The news comes right after Beyond Meat launched its Beyond Chicken Tenders.
The nuggets will be distinguished from Impossible's past products by the absence of heme, a molecule that Impossible claims is what makes the"meat taste like meat." Impossible’s heme is made with genetically engineered yeast, which has prevented the company from selling its burgers and sausages in China and throughout Europe. Impossible’s nuggets, on the other hand, will use textured soy protein and sunflower oil.
