Signal runs the most honest Facebook ad campaign ever, gets banned
Privacy-focused messaging app Signal claims that a series of Instagram ads it tried to run got the company banned from Facebook’s ad platform. The highly targeted and detailed ads aimed to show users the enormous amount of data Instagram and its parent company Facebook collect about them and how that, in turn, is used by thousands of companies, for a price, to get you to buy their products. However, Signal stated that the ad account used to run these ads was shut down before the ads could reach their target audience. As a response, Facebook denied that it suspended Signal’s account for running these ads, claiming the news a publicity stunt. In return, Signal said, “We absolutely did try to run these. The ads were rejected, and Facebook disabled our ad account. These are real screenshots, as Facebook should know,” in a tweet on its official Twitter account.
