The Boring Company received its initial permit to build the Vegas Loop
Elon Musk’s Boring Company has received the green light from Clark County, Nevada, to build a network of vehicle tunnels underneath Las Vegas. Dubbed the “Vegas Loop,” the system will cover 29 miles and 51 stations, allowing passengers to hitch rides in Teslas to and from places like the hotel casinos on the Strip, the city’s new Allegiant football stadium, the Las Vegas Convention Center, and McCarran International Airport.
Zoom In: The Boring Company estimated a sample transit time between the Las Vegas Convention Center and Downtown Las Vegas at 4 minutes, covering 3.6 miles at the cost of $6 per vehicle. The underground network would have a maximum capacity of 57,000 passengers per hour. The company previously built a 1.7-mile loop under the Las Vegas Convention Center, reducing a 45-minute walk to 2 minutes. The two tunnels and three stations cost the company approximately $47 million.
