Volvo unveiled a self-driving wheel loader prototype, the LX03, developed based on a Lego model, specifically the 42081 Lego Technic Concept Wheel Loader Zeux. The autonomous wheel loader is electric, can carry loads up to 5 tons, and can work up to eight hours, depending on the job. The LX03 comes with a modular design, allowing Volvo to make “just one or two changes” to produce a larger or smaller loader according to customer demands.

The prototype doesn’t mean the LX03 will become a production model yet. However, it does represent the next stage in Volvo’s efforts to explore AI and decarbonize construction. The LX03 is also the very first vehicle that has gone from a Lego model to an actual machine.
