In a development pleasing many frustrated iPhone users, Apple’s latest iOS 15.4 developer beta allows users to unlock their iPhone via Face ID while wearing a mask. While Face ID is still most accurate when set up for full-face recognition, the new feature recognizes the unique features around the eye to authenticate. Users will be able to switch on the option manually to “Use Face ID with a mask option” under the Face ID & Passcode section of the settings to get started. Apple says the feature will also work for users wearing glasses, but you will still need to remove sunglasses.
Other features from the beta include the option to add notes to iCloud Keychain passwords, the ability to copy text from objects using the camera while in the Notes and Reminders apps, support for adaptive triggers on PS5 DualSense controllers, EU Digital COVID vaccination records in Wallet, an Apple Card Widget, and dozens more new emojis.
